The Phoenix Sheet Metal JATC is
a joint apprenticeship comprised of a Labor/Management Committee.
Our committee consists of six (6) members, three (3)
members representing the union and three (3) members representing
union contractors.
Our program is designed to educate and train the most
qualified Sheet Metal Workers in the industry.
There are various job opportunities in the Sheet Metal
Industry; they include Fabrication and installation of
architectural sheet metal, kitchen equipment and ducts for heating
and air conditioning systems in residential and commercial
building. You will receive college accredited training in AutoCad,
TAB (Air Balancing) Refrigeration/Service, Welding and HVAC
fabrication and installation. |

PHYSICAL
DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS OF A SHEET METAL WORKER |
|
An
individual should be able to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50
pounds; frequent lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds and should be
able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach,
handle, feel, see and unafraid of heights.
Working conditions vary for a sheet metal worker; there
will be exposure to extreme temperatures if working outside in
Arizona
during the summertime, you will be exposed to excessive noise and
vibrations. |

Commercial
Journeyman: $29.65,
plus an $14.86 benefit package
Commercial
Apprentices: $16.31-25.50
Tradesman:
$13.34 (*Limited Benefits)

TRAINING PROGRAM DURATION
AND
COSTS

The
Phoenix Sheet Metal Program is a five (5) year program, that
consist of on-the-job training and college accredited classes
through
Gateway
Community College
.
There
are three (3) Semesters per year; each semester contains 2 weeks
of classes taught here at our facility.
Our program is a day school,
6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Monday through Friday. You
will come to school one (1) week at a time, every seven (7) to
eight (8) weeks on a rotating basis.
If
you qualify for unemployment through the AZ Department of Economic
Security you may be able to collect unemployment while in school.
To complete our program an apprentice must have a minimum
of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and a minimum of 720 hours
of college accredit related training in a classroom setting.
Each student will be provided books and materials while
attending class. Registration
and tuition at
Gateway
Community College
is currently $395.00 per semester, for a yearly cost of $1,185.00.
Each apprentice will register and pay their tuition at
Gateway
Community College
before coming to class at our facility located at: 2534
E. Adams

Phoenix
,
Arizona
. When not in class we
try to keep our apprentices employed by Union Contractors.

The JATC accepts
application for this apprenticeship program on Mondays, Tuesday
and Thursdays each week from
8:00 a.m.
to
3:30 p.m.
during the months of April, May and June.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
|

|
Each
applicant must be at least 18 years old, provide a Social Security
Card and a Birth Certificate.
Once your have submitted this information to the Apprentice
Office you will need to complete the following:
TAKE
AN ASSET TEST WHICH CONSISTS OF BASIC
MATH
AND
READING
TEST AT
GATEWAY
COMMUNITY COLLEGE
AND
SCORE A MINIMUM OF 30 ON EACH TEST.

TAKE A DRUG SCREENING
TEST AT SOUTHWEST LABORATORIES AT YOUR
OWN EXPENSE.
Then after all of the above information has been received in
the Apprenticeship Office you will be notified (at your last known
address) of an interview with our Apprentice Committee Members.
This interview is
MANDATORY.
